Telecom and Sky Television are to trial the packaging of digital TV, residential line, mobile phone and internet services.
“Our aim is to bring it all together for consumers, offering them a true one-stop shop for entertainment , information and communications,” Telecom Data and Voice General Manager Mark Ratcliffe said.
“We want to create real value for customers by offering them a package of services from the country’s leading telecommunications provider and its leading digital TV operator, priced competitively and delivered seamlessly,” he said.
Telecom will be the customer contact point, taking orders and providing customer support for Sky Television’s services along with its own, and generating a single bill for all of them. The package will be trialed by selected households in regions spread around the country from May this year.
People will be offered a range of packages that combine digital TV, landline, mobile and internet services in different ways with different usage plans.
“Content and telecommunications services around the globe are converging rapidly, and Telecom aims to lead New Zealanders into this evolving on-line world,” Mr Ratcliffe said.
The Sky Television service being offered will feature over 20 digital TV channels, specialising in film, news, TV drama, sport, documentary, music, fashion and children’s programmes.
As well as internet and residential landline services, Telecom will bring mobile phones to the mix, making it a true one-stop shop for entertainment, information and communications.
“Telecom’s relationship with Sky Television brings together the services we both have to offer, but it is also a step toward the day when the actual technology delivering these services converges,” Mr Ratcliffe said.
“Our deal is not exclusive - Sky Television and Telecom are both free to enter into a similar deal with other parties,” he said. The decision on whether Telecom and Sky Television will ultimately package their services together will depend on the results of the trial.
