Telecom is working to restore service for XT mobile customers who have been without service since early this morning.

A technical fault had caused a loss of mobile service, including voice, SMS, and mobile broadband, for XT customers south of Taupo.

Customers’ ability to contact emergency services during this outage has not been affected.

Telecom has identified the cause of the fault and restoration work is well underway. A full restoration of service is expected later today.

CEO Telecom Retail, Alan Gourdie, acknowledged the significant impact on XT mobile customers.

“We apologise and deeply regret any inconvenience our customers experience due to the interruption of XT services.”

XT services north of Taupo, and CDMA services nationwide, are unaffected.

Telecom is contacting corporate customers directly, and Telecom’s website is being regularly updated.
