Telecom CEO, Paul Reynolds, said Telecom people across the country have been working methodically and professionally throughout the day to restore cell sites, one by one.

There are currently around 30 out of 1000 sites without service. These sites are all in the lower South Island, including Timaru, Invercargill, Dunedin and Queenstown and a number of sites across rural Southland, Otago and South Canterbury.

“I am hopeful that they will be up and running by tomorrow morning.

“The clear signal we have had from customers is that they want the issue resolved, so that has been our full focus today. Now we have a clear plan, the time is right to think about compensation.

“We will be announcing compensation plans for significantly affected customers early next week.

“XT was built as a world-class network, and we are committed to restoring XT to the highest standards of operation,” Dr Reynolds said

Updates have been sent directly to corporate and business customers, and are available for all customers on the Telecom website www.telecom.co.nz
