Telecom and network partner Alcatel-Lucent are working to restore service for customers on the XT network, from Taupo southwards.
Customers have been experiencing significant interruption to voice services, with SMS and data services affected to a lesser extent, from around 4pm today.
Until service is restored, Telecom recommends that any XT customer experiencing issues attempting to contact emergency services on their mobile, should immediately use a landline instead.
More updates will be given as the situation develops.
